The other day, the song was "They took a vote and said no" by Sunset Rubdown, off shoot band of Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade. Apparently the album "Shut up, I am dreaming" is a rock opera. A "jaunty" one, at that.

DOGS!

From the Briarcliff Animal Clinic.
Just because you never know who's out there reading and in the market for a new pet, or who might be swayed by the right spayed or neutered animal:

Recently, when the Clayton County Animal Control had to greatly reduce their dog population, the Briarcliff Animal Foundation adopted four dogs, which were scheduled for euthanasia. We have provided appropriate medical treatment, spayed and neutered them, and given them their vaccinations. They are now ready for adoption into foster or permanent homes. We need your help in finding homes for them. The dogs are:

Betty, a spayed, black female Australian Shepherd mix is a very sweet, shy dog. She weighs about 40 pounds and may become a Frisbee champion with the right training. She is about 2 years old, is anxious to please, and needs a loving adoptive home.

Maggie, a spayed, brindle boxer-pit-bull mix is very sweet. She weighs about 20 pounds and is about 6 months old. She is very affectionate and eager to please.





Mama Cass, a spayed yellow lab (purebreed) is about two years old and weighs about 50 pounds. She had heartworms when we got her, but has been treated and will be healthy. She is very sweet. and calm.






Wally, is a red-brown neutered male chow mix, weighing about 60 pounds. He is about 2 years old. When we received Wally, he was having ear problems and has had surgery on both ears. He is recovering nicely and should not have any more health problems.

All of these dogs have been given a thorough physical exam, provided medical treatment where warranted, and have been given all of their vaccinations. They are ready to go into loving homes. The Atlanta Brewing Company and Stomp & Stammer Magazine are sponsoring the STOMP! SHOUT! SCREAM! DVD RELEASE PARTY. For a $10 cover, guest will receive a STOMP! SHOUT! SCREAM! souvenir pint glass and enjoy an Atlanta Brewing Company beer tasting from 8 PM to 11 PM. STOMP! SHOUT! SCREAM! will screen at 8:30 with performances by Atlantas premiere Burlesque troupe THE DAMES AFLAME. Atlanta band CATFIGHT!, who recorded original songs for the production, will play immediately following the movie. According to Jennifer, Katy and Susanne this will be Catfight!s final performance. Come out to say goodbye to one of Atlantas best bands.

Lots and lots of free downloads, but I'm positive I'll pay for some of this. It's worth it.

A Scanner Darkly

Richard Linklater's film of Phillip K. Dick's novel "and own experiences." Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder (rotoscoped tig ol bitties and all), Woody Harrelson, Rory Cochrane (who is on the ever-so-cheesy CSI: Miami) and what looks to be a very entertaining Robert Downey, Jr. Scheduled to open July 7. Uses the same software program as "Waking Life." But seems to be used to better effect in this film, judging from the trailer.

Synopsis from the website:
"A Scanner Darkly" is set in suburban Orange County, California in a future where America has lost the war on drugs. When one reluctant undercover cop is ordered to start spying on his friends, he is launched on a paranoid journey into the absurd, where identities and loyalties are impossible to decode. It is a cautionary tale of drug use based on the novel by Philip K. Dick and his own experiences.

Like a graphic novel come to life, "A Scanner Darkly" will use live action photography overlaid with an advanced animation process (interpolated rotoscoping) to create a haunting, highly stylized vision of the future. The technology, first employed in Richard Linklater's 2001 film "Waking Life," has evolved to produce even more emotional impact and detail. Written for the Screen and Directed by:

But from where I stand I can see everyone’s point. They all have good points, I can see them. And if I’m not mistaken, everyone has the same number of equally good points. That’s the advantage of standing in the middle.

Poetry, Patriotic Posers and Pensive Presidents

was looking up a poem i'd heard on the Simpsons and found on the same site, the same page, actually (different from the link above) a couple interesting things. First, Lee Greenwood's "Proud to be an American" was listed as a ...poem...on the same page and he is listed in the poet list at top of the page right after W. H. Auden. The site is called "literacyrules.com"

Anyway, also on the same page is a poem by Abraham Lincoln:

This, then, sent me off looking around at some Lincoln stuff. And found this, which was apparently his favorite poem, by William Knox. "He once remarked, 'I would give all I am worth, and go in debt, to be able to write so fine a piece as I think that is.'" And he doesn't lie.

Called "Mortality." I might mention he did suffer with bouts of depression. But it really is a nice poem. Lee (Greenwood, not Robert E.) couldn't make a country song out of it, but it's still pretty good.

Something else i didn't know---he dated Ann Rutledge, the she died of "fever." He dated then proposed to Mary Owens who gave him the Heisman, so to speak. Later, he met and dated and proposed to Mary Todd. Then he breaks off the engagement, then resumes relationship the next year, and is married soon after.

Clunky, you may have something to add, I know you're a Lincoln fan.
