Role Model: Gene Wilder

Did anyone see Alec Baldwin interview Gene Wilder on Turner Classic Movies? I MISSED IT!

BUT, they're going to re-broadcast it June 4, at 5pm.

Go HERE
to get the page with a video link to the promo for it. There's a funny little bit Alec has.

I have always had a crush on gene wilder.
i love that man so much.

people toss "brilliant" and "amazing" (for you, bo-d) around a lot. But to me, Gene Wilder is just that. He is hysterically funny and such a good, thoughtful, committed, and smart actor.

I signed up for a reminder email when it's closer to the broadcast, so i'll repost.

Blood Drive with good Prizes and actual catered-type food!

this blog has turned into a community calendar lately.
sorry.
just lots of activities going on right now. spring is springing, i guess, and all, what not and so forth and such as.

i'm not even going into the Inman Park Festival. I plan to get a funnel cake.

anyway, got this from the multi-talented anne d, who is a graduate from and teacher at the Portfolio Center, in south midtown/north buckhead.

PC BLOOD DRIVE
May 5 2008
Portfolio Center is sponsoring a blood drive with the American Red Cross on May 5, from 10am-3pm. If you are eligible to give blood, we really need you. As if the thought of doing a good deed weren't enough incentive, prizes and gift cards in excess of $700 have been donated by the following local businesses:
Binders
Black Bear Tavern
Central City Tavern
Chic-Fil-A
Fellini's
Image Link
Mellow Mushroom
Octane
Sam Flax
Vita

And to further sweeten the deal, refreshments will be provided by Panera, Firehouse Subs, and Piece of Cake.
Just email liz@portfoliocenter.com to sign up for a time slot in 15 minute intervals from 10am-3pm. Please spread the word to any PC outsiders who you think may be interested as well. We really want this drive to be successful and need your help!
Also, if you can't give blood but you can give time, student volunteers are needed to man the canteen. Again, email Liz.

dj nene, aka baby courageous, dj-ing at Manuel's this saturday night for a benefit!

via my friend widdi, who is generously joinging up with some of her friends to host a benefit night at Manuel's for their friend who works at Manuel's who has recently had some medical/heart problems, and racked up some bills. you'd probably be drinking somewhere with shitty music, so why not stop by ole manuel's, and drink with some good music. rene does things with songs that just blow my mind sometimes. joy division/missy 'misdemeanor' elliot together? yep. it works.

here are widdi's words:
Hey Atlanta folks! Come to Manny's this Saturday, April 26, from 8PM on for a fun time and to help my friend Erin pay off some medical bills. When you've got such a big heart like sweet Erin does, and it's always working extra hard giving so much love, sometimes it needs a little help! No cover, but a $5 donation is encouraged (or more if you'd like!). Come hear my friends Dave Marder and Jeremy Aggers play, and then we'll boogie down to a dance party! There'll be prizes too, so..... SEE YOU THERE!

We are looking for a female voice with these voice characteristics in mind: a voice you can connect with; a voice you stop and listen too – stop and pay attention too. A girlfriend – no accent; middle of the road accent, someone you trust. …like a Susan Sarandon without the paycheck. The read should be warm."

Antique White Chair

I'm gonna link to an all-time favorite blog post from the now-defunct Topless and Unemployed.
I wrote a post detailing a crappy WEIRD film audition i'd been to, and ablebody wrote a HILARIOUS post about the same audition, and we linked the two posts together via a pivotal object, "Antique White Chair." Clicking on that phrase in either post will just take you to the other's post.

but PLEASE read matt's POST HERE, as well as the comments. It is, indeed, epic. ...The Ultimate Boon.....

I forgot how much i loved reading your writing, duuude.

two art shows

i don't go to many art shows.
it's one of those things that takes someone calling and saying, "hey, i'm going to this art show, it's free, you wanna go? we can eat afterwards."

that's so lazy of me, but i guess it's just not on my priority list, never has been, though i almost always enjoy it when i do go to one.

anyway.

1) Deb Davis, Allison Hasting's honey, and member of Hope For A Golden Summer (HFAGS) is having an art opening this Thursday April 10th at Kavarna in Oakhurst at 8:00. At 10 Hfags will play. Cost : FREE

2) via Pecannelog (christa t is on top of the local art shows, so visit her blog to find out what's going on), Mudfire Gallery in Decatur has an exhibit called Line and Color which "asks what happens when drawing and painting departs from a two dimensional canvas format into the third dimension, etched permanently on functional and sculptural ceramics. The nine artists included in Line and Color - Annette Gates, Cara Gilbert, Courtney Martin, Courtney Murphy, Diana Fayt, Jay Jensen, Julia Galloway, Kelly Sullivan, and Liz Zlot Summerfield - stand out in the field of studio ceramics with their mastery of this exhibit's namesake formal design elements. By redefining the painted surface, these artists create fine art located at the intersection of painting, sculpture, and utility.

Line and Color is on view at MudFire Gallery April 5 - May 3, 2008."

-bang-bang-bang-

whilst playing Catan! one night, dj nene had a song going that sounded like the chorus was "bang-bang-bang!" sung very quickly, over and over again. it made us laugh a lot. Then we found out it was saying "Hey Baby" and i believe it's by Bow Wow or some such, what not, such as. Wait. nope, it's not bow wow. i'll find it.

That was a great story!

Anyway, there's a damn bird that's been waking me up in the morning that might as well be singing that song. the "bang-bang-bang" occurs at about the same interval as it does in the song. he's doing it right damn now. it's funny, til you realize you wanted to sleep more.

But even weirder, right now, there's another bird who i swear to god, sounds like it's singing the flute march song from the battle of the Dead Rabbits at the beginning of Gangs of New York!
that shit haunts me---that flute thing, and DDL as Bill "the Butcher" Cutting being the best things about the film. (IMHO)
it's so WEIRD and dissonant and foreboding. ... not necessarily the tone you want to set for the rest of your day, especially on a crappy monday.

bang-bang-bang! on the other hand...

‘Hey, Lord, please tone down your luminosity; we’re having a problem with contrast. You’re causing the picture to flare.’”

via josie

The Christian Coalition, the people at its helm and its followers are similar to the topic of health insurance to me, in that they both very quickly make me so frustrated and f-ing angry i want to cry.

so when i can sort of laugh at something at their expense, i will, thank you very much.

"Bill Sizemore, a reporter for The Virginian-Pilot, probably knows as much as anyone about Pat Robertson and his multi-million dollar empire, having covered him for years and regularly breaking stories on everything from his outrageous statements to his murky business dealings. "
...
"But perhaps the most interesting anecdote comes from Gerry Straub, a former “700 Club” producer, who explained how Robertson and his supporters believe that CBN had been chosen by God to “usher in the coming of my Son” and, as such, put in place a plan to televise Christ’s imminent return to earth: "

heh!

ok. someone from mesa, az did a google search for "barn owls make me moisten manapkin."
i don't think i know anyone from mesa.

nicely done, arizonian, nicely done. !!

every time i leave "my" Dekalb Farmer's Market

I spend about 2 miles dodging and weaving oncoming traffic while i try to eat my takeout food from their hot bar. and god help me and everyone else if i got a samosa with dipping sauce.

at the light at the exit of DFM, i almost always see at least one other car's driver with a white styrofoam box opened up between them and the steering wheel.

it's really very dangerous.

why don't i just eat some or all of it there?!
...b/c everything smells like fish guts, animal souls and mud in there.

"Jamie Moore has been an Atlanta actor all his life. Most recently in a reoccurring character on "House of Payne" and a 4 year stint as the Gas Guy. You've probably seen him and not even realized it. He is also a member of the team that invented the "Segway". Maybe not that last part."
