Summer Camp

Anne Elser (Peter Dusenberry's sister, for those of you who go way back with me) is a very talented chic. She sews, needlepoints, paints, gardens, is a professional calligraphist (??), she makes her own damn BOXES for gifts for crying out loud, is a graphic designer, and design teacher at Portfolio Center. I'm sure there's more. Anyway, she's teaching a class on hand-bound book-making. I've bought one of her's before and they're really super awesome and cute. make great gifts, or sell them yourself! Looks like it's a pretty big commitment, though, but if you're looking for something interesting to do over the summer, then.....

The new 6-week Bookmaking class Anne's teaching at Binders begins on Wednesday, June 4th from 6-8:30 PM.

spit up vs. barf

i seem to notice a lot of babies and children horking on tv lately. ads, previews for whatever new trading families type of reality show, etc.....
and to me, it stops being really ok to show that on tv once a human reaches, let's say, 1 and 1/2 or 2. 2 may be pushing it. It then becomes vomit to me. even the word is nauseating.

i don't seem to mind animals doing it. In fact, i've been meaning to post about my cat's barf for awhile now, but haven't gotten the pictures onto the computer. Yeah, pictures. That's pretty much the whole post. i thought it was pretty hilarious, though. Soon...

Happy Memorial Day!

Samurai Davis Jr.

This is something i'm going to try to see. More than a few times. It's the popular improv format that follows the maniacal and illogical structure of a Japanese game show. There are consequences for losing. These are almost always awesome. This will replace Scandal on Friday nights at 10:30 at dad's.

The above picture is I think this is how everyone, including chris blair's daughter, should remember chris blair, forever. no matter what else he's done, or what else he does. Or maybe this:

These or Chicken Hand, the Pirate. It's win-win, really.

True Dat

I think a stroke is occurring, as well.
Or her ponytail is pulling one of her hairs, and it is hurting/itching. ?? what an odd choice of shot.

There are a lot of other terribly awesome ads in this lady's photostream.

Tonight, wednesday, The Doug Dank Project welcomes Suehyla El-Attar

Tonight, wednesday, The Doug Dank Project welcomes Suehyla El-Attar--talented actress, funny girl, all-around awesome person--to the stage to monologize some inspiration for the Doug Dank improvisors.

Suehyla El-Attar was born and raised in Starkville, Mississippi to Egyptian parents who are naturalized U.S. citizens. In January of 1998, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia. She spent some time in radio as a dj and morning news personality, working with the now defunct Z93 WZGC-FM and 99x WNNX-FM. Plus, Q100 WWWQ-FM. Since returning her full focus back to theatre, Suehyla has worked with various theatres in Atlanta. She's worked as an actress with The Alliance Theatre Company, PushPush Theater, Horizon Theatre Company, and Essential Theatre, to name a few. She was an actor/writer with the Synchronicity Performance Group 18-month, collaborative project, Women+War. In June of 2006, Horizon Theatre produced the world premiere of Suehyla's The Perfect Prayer; followed by a west coast premiere at Anchorage's Cyrano's Theater in May, 2007.

i just realized

that TALL old women are really weird looking. And that you don't see that very often.
Think about how weird it would be to be standing next to, say, women of the WNBA or supermodels when they're like 80 years old. Sure they'll shrink a little, but....

Seeing Cher on Oprah made me realize this. She's not "old", or at least not old-looking, but she's getting up there, and she's so leggy, and i just think that's weird.

Please, dear readers, after you click on the animal rescue BUTTON on the right, please please enjoy the silky storytelling stylings of Sylvia Scott Gibson, and her brilliant book:

Shields and Yarnell Breakfast Show

do you guys remember this duo?
Well, i imagine i can guess at the few that do or might.
it puts people in an age category, for sure, since it hasn't had 'legs' in terms of timelessness. i remember the name, but not really the show or the acts. as far as mimes go, they're pretty good. Not THIS good, but:

here's the odd minin-biography from imdb.com for robert shields:
Born in California, Robert Shields literally ran away from home and joined the circus as a young boy. He studied mime in Paris and eventually became a street mime performer in San Francisco. He met Lorene Yarnell and formed the Shields and Yarnell mime duo. They played stages worldwide and appeared in TV and film productions. After their divorce, he formed a jewelry design company in Arizona.

Electronics recycling, and that button i promised in the last post!

i figured out how to do it!
there's a button!
a purple, candy-like button!*

i didn't know this, but as of a full year ago, Dekalb county has set up a permanent electronics recycling center, as opposed to the periodic day of collection. Specific listed below.

also, if you don't live in or near Dekalb county, Mygreenelectonics.com lets you plug in your zip code to find recycling centers. apparently best buy and staples, among others, take recyclables, and best buy even takes used appliances.

And old DVD's and VCR tapes can be shipped to Ecodisk or Greendisk, if you're so inclined.

Though, i find that FREECYCLE.ORG is a great way to Re-Use your stuff, cuz people like your old shit if it's free. also a good way to GET free shit.

Dekalb Recycling Center:
Drop off Location:
DeKalb County Sanitation Division
Seminole Road Landfill
4203 Clevemont Road
Ellenwood, GA 30294
Telephone: (404) 244-4842
Hours of Operation: M – F: 8AM – 5 PM; Saturday: 8AM – 4PM
For a list of items accepted and NOT, go HERE

*that reminded me of Ren and Stimpy, which reminded me that i recently discovered that the guy that does the voice of stimpy also does just about every freaking great voice on Futurama, and is in almost every animated thing put on tv or in a theater these days. Billy West. Check out his imdb credits, good lord!

morning ritual

some of you have said, to my surprise, that my blog is one of the things you check every morning/afternoon.
That's really nice to hear, and i apologize (sort of) for not putting up new stuff more often, or at least more original stuff more often.

For those of you who do check here often, i have a proposition:
when you DO come here, why not click the "Animal Rescue" link on the sidebar to the right. it's at the top, under the Simpson and Snatch pic and "The Dame" link. i'll try to figure out how to put a picture or button to click.

It really is legit. Help is donated to the different causes on the tabs acorss the top of the website. I've linked here to the Animal site, but there's hunger, breast cancer, rainforest, child health, and literacy. it's the easiest and free-est way to donate help.

I do have some actual blog posts coming up.
