The tide shifts

and this shit turns belly up.

it became apparent to me that a BUNCH of you are not familiar with Belly, the little store where the Highland Pharmacy used to be on the corner of N. Highland and St. Charles. This is a shame. Though it is stuffed to the gills with shit you do not need, it is also stuffed with reasonably priced old toys/chocolate neato candy things, and also, and more importantly, olive oil bagels (I highly recommend the rosemary dear GOD!) with breakfasty items to add. Go ahead and buy a muffin while you're there. They used to have cupcakes to fucking die for, but they weren't there my last trip. But i haven't been there in a year probably. Seriously. Rosemary bagel. coffee. bacon if you eat it. egg. cheese. Pay the nice girl! and get out before you sign your unborn kid up at Morningside Elementary and pledge $6000/yr to some church.

I finally went to that fast-food Indian restaurant on church st? and scott blvd following a couple people's recommendations.

All i can say is -- what i got --I don't know what it was or what it was called-- but it was pretty fucking fantastic. and $5.

some lentil stuff, kinda like soup. and 1 piece of Nan that could've wrapped around my head. it was huge. and piping hot. i know this cuz i tried to wrap it around my head.
it was still hot even when i got home. i know this, cuz i tried the head thing again.
i ate it very noisily and disgustingly.
as if i were sweating and squatting in a steaming Bombay alley trying to hide from the police something that was in the food by eating it all before they showed up.
I'll be back.

p.s. i think what i got was called Dal Hyderabadi

here is some pork that you may or may not want to get behind

let's get ready to ruuummmmballllll

yes, rumball.

Steve Platinum, (on the left, hopefully obviously) Doug Dank's most monologizing monologist, is BACK.
This guy has fantastic family stories.
He's had about a million jobs and 2 million stories about them.

He's done the show about 4 times, now. There's a reason for that!
Come see what it is.

Only $5!

10pm, tonight (Wednesday)
New Street Arts (Push Push) in Decatur.

Did You Know...

...that the music for Return of Dr. Rod and Other Side of the Glass was written and performed by Sloan Hayes, who was the keyboardist for Starbuck, who performed possibly my favorite song of my formative years, Moonlight Feels Right, which peaked at #3 on the billboards in 1976?

Or maybe the question should be Did You Care?

He is (was?) also a musical improvisor for Laughing Matters.

That song reminds me of being in the way-back of our gold Chevrolet Kingswood station wagon, driving to Tybee during the summer, crossing the Wilmington River bridge, to be very specific.
If you don't know the song, watch this random guy dancing to it-- THAT'S Sloan Hayes playing that xylophone thingee. not in the video, just that's him on the recording...

m: Can you give me the definition?

y: clerisy: The well educated class; the intelligentsia.

m: clerisy. Can you use it in a sentence?

y: clerisy: Why would you use the word clerisy when
you have an awesome word like intelligentsia that
means the same thing?

m: oh. ok. clerisy. c-l-e-r-i-s-y. clerisy.

Do you have KIDS?
Do you LIKE kids?
Forget that, you don't even HAVE to like kids.
You do like to do things that involve laughing on Saturday at 11:30 am.

Uncle Grampa's Hoo-Dilly Storytime is back at Dad's Garage.

Phinneas J. Monkey, Larry Lederhosen, Lil' Tamo the Robot, and Fritz the Butler have a kid spin the story wheel, and wherever it lands, that's the story that gets told. It's improvised. Clunky (Lil Tamo) wrote a lil bit about the show HERE.

Seriously, especially if you have kids. You should---i'm just sayin, it's a good idea. (Only $3 for the kids!)

One of those sad, weird rashes of loss

"He was one of the nicest guys i ever met."

what you leave behind.

I know it [turban] doesn't mean you're a terrorist! All I'm saying is can you please not wear it for the three shitty hours we're trapped on an airplane? Are ya keepin' up with the news? You're making everybody nervous! When ya get off the plane, make up for the lack of turban. Go to Bed, Bath & Beyond and just get yourself a turban that is so high in the air that you can't even walk down the street without tickling Allah's nut-sack!

Poor guy--his family says, in one story, he was dealing with extreme depression and psychotic paranoia. gahhhhhhh!

Chris Blair is an ensemble member at Dad's Garage Theatre. And has been for a LONG TIME.
Chris Blair is also odd.
And it is even more effective, because he doesn't seem like he'd be odd. And when i say odd, it's a good odd. It's a sneak-up-on-you-odd. It's a hilarious-odd. It's an out-of-right-field-odd. But then again, he's a regular guy. With a smart, beautiful wife. And adorable baby. And Mrs. Peepers, the world's cutest weiner dog. His story is best told through pictures.

Dank it. Tonight. Wednesday, the 14th.

Spring Electronics Recycling Day

Saturday, March 24 • 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Decatur High School parking lot
Go to this site for a complete list of recyclables. It's huge.

Don't throw away that old computer, printer, fax machine or other outdated electronic equipment – bring it to the Decatur High School parking lot, corner of N. McDonough Street and W. Howard Avenue, for recycling.

Electronics dropped off on March 24 will be sorted and broken down into their raw materials and sent to recyclers for reuse. New to the list of recyclable items for 2007 are batteries of any type, bubble wrap and clean Styrofoam packaging components, mercury thermometers and thermostats. In 2006 Decatur recycled 60,000 pounds of electronic equipment that would have otherwise gone to the landfill.

Da Vinci's Inquest out on dvd in U.S.

with a long wait on Netflix.

I have SUCH a serious thing for Nicholas Campbell.

I'm a weirdo.

Kristi Allain of Program Partners says, "Da Vinci’s Inquest season 2 will be available for purchase on DVD this fall, with seasons 3-7 to follow."
She thanked me for watching.

omphaloskepsis (om-fuh-lo-SKEP-sis) noun

Contemplation of one's navel.

Chocolate chips? in cookies.

Peppers and beans? in chili.

Also, The Onion interview with Zach Galifianakis!

"ZG: I have a 60-acre farm in North Carolina, and I have a tractor and a farmhouse. As soon as I groom the land, I want to put cabins around and have a place where people can write and hang out. It'll be either that or an all-black nudist colony."

have you seen his new dvd?
you should.
if only for the outtakes.

Fugees and Funyons.

Don't ever, no matter how much you trust the recipe source, put chocolate chips into a perfectly good pot of chili you've just goddamn made.

But you're gonna do what you want anyway, right?

ok. Go ahead. Try it. If you're so curious.

bye, bill

OH my godohmygodohmygod

Well, that's maybe a little dramatic.

But, here's the March lineup for Doug Dank at New Street Theatre (Push Push).

March 7 : Randy Havens

Those are both pictures of Randy from "The Return of Dr. Rod, and "Cash Cop." He was also in our very first 48 hour film, "Aliens Among Us."

March 14 : Chris Blair
March 21 : Mike Schatz
March 28 : Steve Platinum
They get they pictures when they week come up.

All have ties to Dad's Garage Theatre. In fact, randy, chris and mike are ensemble improvisors there. Chris is a total nutball (he has both nuts and balls!). Mike Schatz makes me laugh by just sitting there. He's also in Aqua Teen Hunger Force (tv show and movie) as Emery. And if you've been to DDP more than several times, you've probably seen Steve Platinum monologize before. He's the wrestler/teacher/porn script writer/telemarketer/don't have time to list them all here/ with the awesome awesome stories.
All on Wednesdays at 10pm.

All are funny friends of Mr. Dank.

All are funny.

All are friends.

All are worth more than $5.

But all are still just $5.

All beer and cookies are extra.

But not all that much.

After all, Doug Dank would want it that way.
