Tonight at Eddie's Attic in Decatur Hope For a Golden Summer will perform, along with Packway Handle Band (bluegrass), Rising Appalachia (they say Gillain Welch-esque) and Kaisercartel (?).

I've mentioned HFAGS before. I've seemed to miss them every time they've been in Atlanta since the last time I saw them at The Earl. We used one of their songs in a short film we made for Push Push's Dailie's Project. I really like them, but they don't seem to like Mack Williams' yappy mouth. (I still think they were just flirting, Mack. But seriously, shut the f#$! up.)

"Adorable basic cable network VH-1" looks to Channel 101 for new sketch pilot

I'm happy for these guys.
Sounds like they're doing what they want to do, and TV is letting them.
That doesn't sound like TV.
I guess this will be just like channel101.com (but with much better production values I'd imagine), the sketches are completely self-contained short episodes of shows where the audience decides what gets "picked up" and what doesn't.
I think that's how it's gonna work.
That'll be a tough turn-around, but i guess if they're getting paid for it now, they can dedicate all of their time to it.

I'm looking for when this will air.
I guess for the fall?

Best Original Song

"The Other Side of the Glass" won "Best Original Song" for the 48 Hour Film Festival, which screened as part of the Atlanta Film Festival last week.

We had 2 songs in the short, I can only imagine they're talking about "This is my Penis song" and not "The Other Side of the Glass." Not sure, only a guess. Look at that picture, you can practically HEAR us saying "...enis, Penis, Penis..."

They were going to give me the "Best White Girl Mimicking a Black Girl" award, until they realized that both the award and I were in terribly bad taste.

Crap it! I would've accepted an award for "In Worst Taste," but nobody was offering.
I'm sure I'll get a few of those before i die.

Or someone kills me.

Steve Coulter does Doug Dank

This week's monologist will be Steve Coulter, local actor, teacher and filmmaker, and recent winner of the South Eastern Media Award at the 2006 Atlanta Film Festival--- he and his wife Dee's screenplay adaptation of Helen Frost's "Keesha's House." The Award includes $$ and production-oriented prizes to help make the film, which he will direct. At the staged reading, David Silverman and I shouted obscenities from just off-stage for one particular scene. I agreed to it, because I would've probably be already doing that, were i just sitting in the audience. This way was much less offensive, and a smidge more socially acceptable.
Steve's very good.
You should come see him.

Another treat for this week's Doug Dank Project is the addition of Matt Young as guest improvisor! Matt was one of the founding member of Dad's Garage Theatre and now lives and works as an actor/improvisor/musician (Captain Genius) in L.A.

Honeymoon Foiled

This is from a flickr 'friend.' A couple came back from their honeymoon to this.
Then, there's THIS. A pretty hilarious story about a guy who went out of town and his friend/housesitter and a few other friends worked day and night to foil his entire place, leaving a lone book un-foiled, that book being "Penn and Teller's Cruel Tricks for Dear Friends."

Hi, how are you?

If I wasn't so fond of "Moisten Manapkin," I'd rename this blog "I'm sure you've already heard of this, but..."

NPR's song of the day today is "The Sun Shines Down on Me," by Daniel Johnston. Daniel is mentally ill and is now unable to take care of himself and lives with his parents. This song is from a recent retrospective called "Welcome to My World."

His artwork apparently was recently shown at the Whitney Museum in New York, though i can't seem to find any evidence of it there. crappy website.



But, his personal website is called, "Hi, how are you?" There's a bunch of his artwork here. For sale. Like this, to the right, called "If you just wouldn't be so verbal with your negativism."


And there's a picture on there of Kurt Cobain wearing a "Hi, how are you?" t-shirt, so...I'm not breaking any news here for you guys.
But it's news to me.

I ask the question because i read that there was a documentary made about him called "The Devil and Daniel Johnston." So I went to netflix to add it......and it was already in my netflix queue.
I have no recollection of putting it there.
And none of my friends have rated or reviewed or rented it.

where is my brain?
I'm hoping I was thinking about "The Devil and Daniel Webster."
But why would i put that in my netflix? Nobody has suggested that one, either.
Maybe I was thinking that Daniel Day-Lewis was in that.
He's nice to watch. in the dark.

I guess that should be obvious, cuz i probably wouldn't put a bad review up here. And they're out there. I've seen them. I wish i were talking just about a poorly written good review of our unbelievable movie....but i'm not. though those are out there, too.

we won the audience award!

"The Other Side of the Glass" won the audience award for our group of 48 hour films. !!

This means it will go on to be part of the finalists which will screen at the Atlanta Film Festival on June 17th at noon at the GSU auditorium, if anyone's interested in seeing the finalists and the "awards ceremony."
Tickets are $7, unless you are an IMAGE member. Or a senior. Or a student. Then it's $5, because you're probably poor, and those $2 will certainly go for food for your baby or denture cream.
